Annuity Requirements

Any producer who engages in the sale of annuities is required to complete a four (4) hour annuity suitability training course. Individuals who hold a life insurance line of authority may not engage in the sale of annuities until the annuity suitability training course has been completed. Producers are also required to complete on an ongoing basis company-sponsored product-specific training sponsored by the insurance company offering the product.

Long-Term Care Training

Agents selling, soliciting or negotiating Kansas Partnership for Long-Term Care Plans will need to have four hours of Partnership-related training, followed by one hour of related training every other year.

Flood Requirements

This state has issued a notice reminding licensees who sell flood insurance of their requirement to comply with the minimum 3 hours of training requirements established by FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program.

All Other State Requirements

Resident Requirements

Licensees must complete 12 hours of CE every two years in the line for which the license is held with at least 1 hour in ethics.

Licensees holding multiple authorities L/H and P/C must complete 24 total hours with 50% of the hours in L/H and 50% of the hours in P/C courses - this must include 2 hours of Ethics training. Credit earned from general courses is acceptable in meeting L/H or P/C requirements.

Non-Resident Requirements

Non-residents who comply with the CE requirements of their resident state are exempt from Kansas CE requirements.

Course Repetition

Course repetition is not permitted within the compliance/renewal period.

Exam Rules

Online certification exams are closed book. Course materials are not available while the exam is in progress. The final exam must be passed with a score of 70% or higher to receive CE credit. If the exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

Proctor/Monitor Requirements

Online exams must be monitored by a disinterested third party. A disinterested third party certifies that the licensee completed the exam without assistance (i.e., closed book, no tiling, layering of screens, etc.) and is someone who has no financial interest in the success or failure of the student's ability to maintain their license. The monitor must complete the online Declaration of Compliance. If the licensee launches the exam without a monitor present, he/she will be disqualified from receiving CE credit for the course. Completion of the Declaration of Compliance acknowledges understanding and adherence to the specific requirements outlined by the State Department of Insurance. The Declaration of Compliance is electronically transmitted to Kaplan upon completion of the exam and may be audited for compliance purposes.

Period Requirements

Kansas resident and nonresident licensees must complete his or her CE requirements by his or her date of birth every two years. If born in an odd year, due in an odd year and if born in an even year, due in an even year. If the license has not been held for a full two years by the initial CE deadline, then the licensee is given another two years to complete the CE requirement.

Carryover Requirements

Carryover of CE hours is not permitted.

Reporting Requirements

Report within 30 days of completion. Need Agent’s SSN, License number or NPN to report.

State Reporting Fees

The Kansas Department of Insurance requires a course reporting fee of $1.00 per credit hour (online, self-study and classroom courses). This state reporting fee will be automatically charged to you (on the last credit card used in your account) each time you complete an online, self-study, or classroom course.
