Annuity Requirements

Any producer who engages in the sale of annuities is required to complete a four (4) hour annuity suitability training course. Individuals who hold a life insurance line of authority may not engage in the sale of annuities until the annuity suitability training course has been completed. Producers are also required to complete on an ongoing basis company-sponsored product-specific training sponsored by the insurance company offering the product.

Long-Term Care Training

Agents selling, soliciting or negotiating Kansas Partnership for Long-Term Care Plans will need to have four hours of Partnership-related training, followed by one hour of related training every other year.

Flood Requirements

This state has issued a notice reminding licensees who sell flood insurance of their requirement to comply with the minimum 3 hours of training requirements established by FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program.

All Other State Requirements

Resident Requirements

Due to the passage of Senate Bill 37, both resident and nonresident producer license biennial renewal dates will change from their birthday to the last day of their birth month, in an even or odd year, depending on whether the producer was born in an even or odd year.

Licensees must complete 18 hours of CE every two years in any line of authority, with at least 3 credit hours in Ethics.

Non-Resident Requirements

Non-residents who comply with the CE requirements of their resident state are exempt from Kansas CE requirements.

Course Repetition

Course repetition is not permitted within the compliance/renewal period.

Exam Rules

Online certification exams are closed book. Course materials are not available while the exam is in progress. The final exam must be passed with a score of 70% or higher to receive CE credit. If the exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

Period Requirements

Kansas resident and nonresident licensees must complete their CE requirements biennially by the last day of their birth month, in an even or odd year, depending on whether the licensee was born in an even or odd year. Resident producers will begin to renew their licenses through NIPR (www.nipr.com). All resident producers, regardless of lines of authority, are required to pay a $4.00 biennial license renewal fee which will be collected by NIPR at their first biennial renewal date following January 1, 2022.

Carryover Requirements

Carryover of CE hours is not permitted.

Reporting Requirements

Report within 10 days. Need agent's license number/NPN to report.

State Reporting Fees

The Kansas Department of Insurance requires a course reporting fee of $1.00 per credit hour (online, self-study and classroom courses). This state reporting fee will be automatically charged to you (on the last credit card used in your account) each time you complete an online, self-study, or classroom course.
