This course meets the 16-hour long-term care training requirement for producers wishing to sell LTC insurance in Colorado.

The first 8 hours meets the general LTC requirement and introduces students to the long-term care field and long-term care (LTC) insurance policies. In addition to identifying the health care professionals that provide LTC services, this course defines the various types of LTC settings and the scope of services provided in those settings. The differences between tax-qualified and non-tax-qualified plans are described and policy provisions and benefit options are delineated. The class also covers Medicaid and Medicare programs and describes the market for long-term care insurance. Producers are given guidance on how to tailor long-term care insurance policies to client needs.

The second 8 hours meets the LTC training requirement specific to partnership. This portion reviews the alternative long-term care financing options and tax treatments. In addition, this class reviews the Deficit Reduction Act 2006 and the National Partnership Initiative. Colorado long-term care statutes and requirements regarding policies, marketing, suitability, and tax credits are reviewed.

This course has been approved by the Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce for 16 hours of insurance continuing education (Applies to MN insurance CE courses only; statement required by MN DOC).
