Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) certification is defined by Investments and Wealth Institute™ as the peak international, technical portfolio construction program for investment consultants, analysts, financial advisors, and wealth management professionals. In this article, we break down the process of earning your CIMA® certificate into four simple steps.
The Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) certificate is the only credential designed specifically for financial professionals who want to attain a higher level of competency as an advanced investment consultant. To qualify for certification, you must have three years of financial services experience and a satisfactory record of ethical conduct, as determined by Investments & Wealth Institute’s Admissions Committee.
Under the new process, the steps to earning CIMA certification are as follows:
Candidates must complete an application for candidacy on the Investments & Wealth Institute website. As part of the application process, you will be subject to a background check to ensure you meet eligibility. You will need to pay the examination fee as part of your application. If your application is approved, you will become a member in the organization (if you aren’t already), and you will receive access to the CIMA Candidate Resource Center.
Investments & Wealth Institute has selected a number of approved Registered Education Providers. You must complete the executive education requirement through one of these approved providers prior to sitting for the exam.
Once you have completed the required education, you must complete and pass a comprehensive CIMA Certification Examination. To ensure you are prepared for success on exam day, take advantage of Kaplan Financial Education’s CIMA® Exam Prep package. The exams are administered by Pearson VUE, and must be scheduled and taken at a Pearson VUE testing center.
Finally, once you have completed the previous steps, you will complete your certification on the Investments & Wealth Institute website. In this final step, you will submit to a final background check, and the Institute will ensure you have met all required experience requirements, and that you understand the ongoing requirements for recertification. At the completion of this step, you will be issued a two-year certification.
