Andrew Temte, PhD, CFA, is president of Kaplan Professional Education (KPE), a division of Kaplan, Inc. As president of KPE, Dr. Temte oversees and leverages assets, capabilities, and talent across Kaplan’s global footprint. KPE offers a large portfolio of professional development programs and helps individuals earn industry-recognized licensures, certifications, and designations. Based in La Crosse, WI, KPE maintains operations throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
In addition to his current role, Dr. Temte has served in the following professional positions:
• Dean of Kaplan University School of Professional and Continuing Education
• Interim President of Mount Washington College
• President of Kaplan University College of Business and Technology
Outside of his professional career, Dr. Temte serves on the Board of Directors for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Foundation, his alma mater. He and his wife Linda, are also active in numerous fundraising events and committees in the community.
Dr. Temte started his professional education career in 1990, working with Dr. Carl Schweser to build Schweser Study Program into the leader in CFA exam review. Upon the acquisition of Schweser Study Program by Kaplan, Inc. in 1999, Dr. Temte assumed leadership of the Kaplan Schweser organization. Under his direction, Kaplan Schweser became a leading global provider of innovative, efficient, and effective financial education solutions.
Dr. Temte earned his doctorate in finance from the University of Iowa with a concentration in international finance and investment theory. He holds the CFA designation and has over 14 years of university teaching experience in the areas of corporate finance, investments, and international finance.
Dr. Tim Smaby is Vice President of Advanced Designations for Kaplan Schweser. Tim joined the company in 2002 as the manager of the Level 2 CFA study materials. In his current role, Tim oversees product management and content development for the CFA, CAIA, and FRM product lines. Prior to joining Kaplan, Tim was an associate professor of finance at Penn State Erie. He has also held various positions in the banking industry with Bank One in Cincinnati, Ohio, and First Republic Bank in Dallas, Texas. Tim is a CFA Charterholder and has also been awarded the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation. He holds a PhD in finance from the University of Cincinnati, an MBA in finance from the University of Wisconsin, and a BS in economics from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Jimmie Flores is a full-time faculty professor for the School of Business and Management at Kaplan University, where he teaches graduate-level business process improvement courses. Dr. Flores has an extensive global business background in the United States, India, and the Philippines, having held management and leadership positions in major companies, including Shell Oil Company, The Prudential, and USAA. He has vast experience developing courses for various organizations and has taught online undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral classes for more than a decade.
As an online learner for many years, Dr. Flores has a clear understanding of the challenges faced by virtual students. He has earned a Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Development, a Doctor of Management (DM) in Information Systems and Technology, an MBA in Finance, Marketing and Management, and numerous other master’s and bachelor’s degrees and professional certifications.
Amy Gau has more than 17 years of experience in leading a variety of projects for a wide range of companies, from large IT firms to small nonprofit organizations. As owner of Successful Projects AG in Mazeppa, Minnesota, Amy specializes in helping organizations implement workable plans to reach their objectives with efficient use of limited resources, as well as providing customized training for companies and individuals.
Amy obtained a bachelor’s degree in English and Physics and completed post-graduate work in Industrial Engineering. During her tenure at IBM, she was responsible for end-to-end management of global projects across multiple areas, including IT, marketing, manufacturing, and sales. She has received outstanding achievement awards for project management and end-to-end user experience work and has a talent for communicating technical information to various audiences.
Operations Management Professor
Dr. Jason Jackson is a full-time Operations Management professor in Kaplan University’s School of Business, where he started as an adjunct professor in June 2006. Prior to joining Kaplan, Jason was a Major in the United States Air Force, serving honorably for 15 years as an aviator and acquisitions expert in 65 countries during both humanitarian and combat operations. He holds Level II Certification in Project Management from Defense Acquisitions University. In 2010, Jason was inducted as an inaugural member of the Purdue University “40 Under 40,” which recognizes the top 40 alumni under age 40. In 2006, Jason was selected as the Outstanding Representative of the Year for the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute.
Jason has extensive experience with certification of flight simulators, software engineering management, project management, change management, risk management, and strategic thinking. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Management and Decision Sciences from Walden University, Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from the University of Phoenix, and a BS in Mathematics from Purdue University.
