Behavioral Financial Advice FAQs

You can enroll in your course by visiting our enroll page or by contacting Kaplan’s Student Support Team at 800.717.3650. We will walk you through our simple, stress-free enrollment process.

Course exams and quizzes are taken conveniently online. There is no need to travel to a testing center.

Behavioral Financial Advice students qualify for up to 20 credits (10 per course) toward renewing the following designations: CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™(CFP®), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), also through the American College’s PACE program - CLU®, CLF®, RHU®, REBC®, CAP® and CASL® and up to 8 credits (4 per course) toward the Investments & Wealth Institute's designations - CIMA®, CIMC®, CPWA.

Once enrolled, you gain immediate access to your program, and the first task of your course includes introduction materials. These materials allow you to become familiar with Kaplan’s online learning model and instructional tools.

Exam Information:

  • You have up to 3 hours, 20 minutes to complete the exam
  • There are 100 questions
  • Once you start the exam, you must complete it
  • There are two Case Study Facts associated with the exam that you should print out and read before taking the exam
  • Passing score is 80%
  • Final Exam cost is $99.00

Individuals who have successfully completed their Behavioral Financial Advice certification exam are authorized to use the following certification mark in communications and marketing materials, pending firm approval:

  • BFA™
  • Behavioral Financial Advisor

This marks represents that you have met the standards of the Kaplan Professional Academy, including completing the education and exam requirements.

1. The Behavioral Financial Advisor™ marks must be clearly associated with the individual holding the certification.
2. The Behavioral Financial Advisor™ marks must appear with a superscript trademark symbol ™. If the ™ symbol cannot be created, capital TM in parentheses can be placed after the mark as a substitute, for example, Behavioral Financial Advisor(TM).

Beginning January 1, 2017, Behavioral Financial Advisors will be responsible for completing 16 hours of continuing education (CE) on a biennial basis. 

There will be a biennial fee of $95 for designation renewal. 

All students will be able to get dual credit for their CE credits from the following: 

  • Insurance CE
  • Firm Element
  • Other Advanced Designation CE
  • Corporate Training

All designees will be responsible for self-reporting their completed CE credits.
